At the entrance of Almirida archaeologists discovered Mosaic and tombs which
belong to the Royal Church rhythm of the 5th century A.D. Here the last battle
between the Greek revolutionaries and the Turks in 1896 took place.

Almirida is a small village with a pleasant shallow beach located in the bay of Souda. Further up the hill (and 10 minutes on foot from the beach), the village of Plaka is also popular because it is very quiet with superb views of the bay of Souda and the White Mountains. Limited public transport so it is best to have your own car if you want to move around. Almirida is located 25 km from Hania with buses 2 or 3 times a day only. Atmosphere Almirida is still pretty laid back although tourism has become well developed. Accommodation New hotels have been built in the past few years so there is plenty to choose from. Restaurants A few good restaurants. Shopping Basic. You will find more in Kalives, 4 km away. Nightlife A couple of bars. Beach A pleasant sandy beach with shallow water. The beach is small and can easily feel crowded.
